Should be called Plywood 2.0

At first glance, you might think, "it's just plywood, what's the big deal?" Right? That's what I thought at first too. Then I realized that Purebond / Columbia forest works have made a rift in the industry. Plywood used to be this mysterious product that you would buy without knowing it's origin or what it was comprised of. Some products contain nasty chemicals like formaldehyde and other icky bonding agents, dyes, and bleaching treatments that are not good for your health or the environment. Some products (and companies) also were not very compassionate toward the environment. They do not put the sustainability of our natural habitats into account when harvesting their woods. This is not a good thing. Deforestation is a real issue and as woodworkers, we have a responsibility. Fortunately Purebond is looking to change things for the better and they are taking this issues into account. Purebond uses formaldehyde free adhesives and treatment for the woods, their adhesive is soy-based which means it's all natural, it is more environmentally friendly and it's biodegradable. Did I mention it's also manufactured in North America? One thing I like about Purebond is that the product is consistent. I have purchased 10 sheets at once and every sheet was smooth, knot free and straight as an arrow. I don't know about you but often times, when buying plywood, you'll end up with some that have bows in it or really bad sagging, not with Purebond. The core of the plywood is extremely stiff and all of the plys are pressed extremely tight so it feels like a solid piece of wood. Purebond reminds me of a skateboard deck in a way. It's very rigid but easy to work with. I have not had any major issue with Purebond. I have not run into any voids or have encountered any chip-out while cutting, chiseling, or routing out on the plywood. Purebond is great for CNC as well. Since the plys are fused together so well, the cutter in the CNC just zips right through without issue and no major tear out. Also, since the veneer on top is pure hardwood, you always end up with beautifully finished pieces. It takes stains, oils, and other finishes like regular hardwood. I also really like the involvement with the community that Purebond has. They are offering community projects, talking with customers, sharing ideas and information. It's really great to see this from a wood manufacturer. Their involvement in the woodworking community helps new people feel welcomed and they also provide tons of resources & information for professionals as well. All in all I am very impressed by Purebond and have made the switch. It's all I want to buy. I really enjoy the variety of hardwoods you can choose from, the construction of each sheet is top notch and I have not run into any issues at all. Plywood has always been a hit-or-miss for me at times. But not anymore. I would say, pick up a sheet of Purebond and give it a go. You'll be thoroughly surprised.

The perfect fit

Our small custom woodworking company sets high standards and works under demanding circumstances. We recently completed a large project of a comprehensive Mid-century modern remodels in Seattle were the product selection was primarily Cherry veneered plywood. The client, GC, architects and interior designer deferred to us as to what product/manufacturer to use for our panels goods and we, without hesitation, chose our preferred product, Columbia Forest Product's Purebond brand plywood. It excels in durability, performance, aesthetics and it's intrinsic green-made qualities. The end result was a seamless synthesis of the client's vision and a high-quality product that we are delighted to have made. We will continue to use CFP purebond products enthusiastically and with pride. We highly recommend CFP!
